Too many people with ADD don't think they're creative. That's probably true because someone who doesn't understand ADD or is really dumb told them they aren't.
But, whether or not you think of your ADD as giving you enormous creativity or not, what we want you to think about is how to get more time to do the creative things you enjoy doing, and using systems to skyrocket your success.
You may be trying to get better at making money, putting your body into great shape, improving your romantic relationship, or have a very pleasing family life. Whatever it is, systems are very important. One of them might be about your kids. Should you schedule time to be with them? Absolutely! Some might say this is wrong, that you shouldn't have to schedule in your kids, too.
But because of your ADD, you might be distracted easily, and no matter how much you love your kids, whatever you're focused on might just keep you away. You can be so hyperfocused on something for eight or nine hours, and just forget. You need to schedule in important things, too! Not just business. You need to schedule in eating, being with your kids, spending time with your partner... all of that. And you need an alarm that says, "Hey, it's time to go do that now."
A system of scheduling like this allows you to free your mind. You don't have to remember to play with your kids because your schedule and the alarm will remind you to do that.
Many ADD-ers think that all this scheduling will decrease their independence, but it's really something positive. What you're really doing is choosing to be independent. You're choosing to create a scheduling system to boost your creativity.
Here's the thing... If you want to change your "me" time, you can do that. Instead of making it from four to six in the afternoon, you can choose to make it from nine to eleven in the morning. You just need to keep track of the things in your life that are important, and that won't happen, unless you put things into a calendar or planner of some sort.
We know we talk about that a lot, but the whole scheduling system has been life-changing for both of us. We want it to be the same way for you.
